A crown reduction is a much more severe form of pruning: instead of trimming to thin and reshape, this service removes a significant amount of the outer crown of the tree. This allows the denser foliage bearing structure of the tree to remain intact to reduce the resistance of the wind (the sail area) and will lessen the stress placed on weak or defective roots.
